The Light of the Gospel in the Heart of Broken Villages
A recent trip to the Kharkiv region became a powerful testimony of how God’s love and care reach even the most remote and forgotten corners of Ukraine. Over several days, a team of Christian servants from Khmelnytskyi, together with the local church “Light of the Gospel” in Balakliia and missionary Oleksii Salfetnikov, visited 12 villages, bringing not only humanitarian aid, but also hope, warmth, and the living Word of God.
In many of these villages, the infrastructure is nearly destroyed: damaged homes, no pharmacies or shops, and schools operating remotely. Some villages have only a handful of elderly residents left. And yet, despite these difficult circumstances, the hearts of people remain open to fellowship, prayer, and the study of the Bible.
We witnessed how even the most modest spaces—like a former Soviet “Lenin corner”—have become places where villagers now gather weekly to pray, read the Bible, and seek God’s presence.
A special part of the ministry was serving soldiers in a hospital, where our team had the opportunity to share God’s love with those who have sacrificed so much for others. Children and youth were also a key focus: we held meetings, games, and joyful evenings with food, music, and messages from the Bible. One evening brought together over 90 children!
In every village, people received food packages weighing 5 and 12 kilograms, generously provided by the charitable foundations “Hope of Mercy” (Velyki Luchky) and “New Life” (Uhlia). These gifts offered real support at a time when many lack even the basics.
These were long and tiring days, but our hearts are filled with joy — because we saw God at work. We thank the Lord for every open heart, every conversation, and the privilege of being part of His great mission.
The light of the Gospel continues to shine even in the darkest places. May God keep touching hearts and transforming lives — village by village.
